The Deck

Mayor's Design Award 2017

Over the course of the 2017 Meet in the Street Festival, The Deck played host to Musicians, DJs, Artists, and Filmmakers. As a stage, it provided a new and interesting alternative to off the shelf temporary stages and a unique venue on the mall. After sunset, The Deck was converted to an open air microcinema, a space for Denverites and visitors to engage with the work of local visual artists, filmmakers, and media organizations. Sponsored and programmed by the Denver Film Society, the summer series screened works by Chris Bagley, Doug Wilson, Denver Open Media, Process Reversal, and the Young Filmmakers Workshop.

The Deck was conceived as a prototype to test ideas about public engagement and culture within the laboratory of the city. It’s success over the summer season demonstrates the impact of alternative approaches to urbanism and design in downtown Denver.
